History

The Rüediswil cheese cooperative was founded in 1887. In the same year, 27 courageous members of the cooperative decided to build a cheese dairy, which still stands on the same site today. In the course of time, the cheese dairy was constantly renovated and adapted to technical progress. Exactly 101 years after its foundation, the former half-year Emmentaler cheese dairy was closed down in 1998 in the course of the liberalised cheese market. At the time, it seemed that a tradition of over 100 years was dying. In 2013, George Hofstetter and his wife breathed new life into the cheese dairy. Since then, various cheese specialities have been produced from organic cow's, buffalo's, sheep's and goat's milk in the current cheese factory of the BIO Genuss-Käserei Hofstetter GmbH. The product range extends from hard cheeses to soft cheeses.
