History

The Rüediswil cheese cooperative was founded in 1887. In the same year, 27 courageous members of the cooperative decided to build a cheese dairy, which still stands on the same site today. Over the course of time, the cheese dairy was constantly modernized and adapted to technical progress. The former half-century-old Emmental cheese dairy was shut down in 1998, exactly 101 years after it was founded, in the wake of the liberalized cheese market. At the time, it seemed that a tradition of over 100 years was dying. In 2013, however, George Hofstetter and his wife breathed new life into the cheese dairy. Since then, various cheese specialties made from organic cow's, buffalo, sheep's and goat's milk have been produced in the current cheese factory of BIO Genuss-Käserei Hofstetter GmbH. The product range extends from hard cheeses to soft cheeses.
