History

Innovation has always been the strength of the Bergmolkerei Schönried dairy, as was already evident in 1934 when the Schönried dairy cooperative was founded with 28 members. Today it has 52 farmers. In the beginning, they did not process the milk themselves, but sold it on directly. In 1956, they moved into their own building and hired Friedi and Alfred Mösching as the first couple to manage the dairy. In 1988, the dairy was rebuilt in the center of Schönried. The modern premises were taken over by the former "bad guy" Johann Graf. He ran the business successfully and continued to develop the products, with the fondue mixes in particular becoming very well known. Bruno Buchs managed the dairy for eight years from 2009, just as innovatively as his predecessor. Since 2017, Reto Siegrist and his team have been taking care of the 2.4 million kilograms of cow's milk and 100,000 kilograms of goat's milk that are delivered each year. 1.7 million liters of cow's milk and all of the goat's milk are processed into cheese, butter, yogurt and much more.

The cheese specialties range from soft cheese to semi-hard cheese to hard cheese, there is something for every taste. In addition to the products they make themselves, they also market the Berner Alp- und Hobelkäse AOP from their cooperative members.
