History

The Ricken mountain cheese dairy has been run by the Liechti family on the Ricken Pass since 1939. In addition to the king of cheeses, Emmentaler AOP, they produce various types of Hochmoor Chäs. The mountain cheese dairy was founded in 1904. The cheese dairy is currently run by the third generation of the Liechti family. Over the past decades, the entrepreneurial wisdom has proven true: "It's not starting that is rewarded, but perseverance". With the launch of their own Hochmoor Chäs brand, they have developed a promising mainstay that can be expanded and will also bring added value to their partners, the milk suppliers, in the future. The cheese dairy's motto is: "Believe in the future together and master it successfully!"

What makes THE cheese from Bergkäserei Liechti so special?

Hochmoor Chäs is produced on the Swiss Ricken Pass - in the middle of a high moorland area. The milk comes from cows that graze in a humid climate typical of high moorland. The unique flora and herbs of the high moor, which lies 800 meters above sea level, are not only a source of food for the cows, but are also used as a herbal salt for the bark. So it's no wonder that Hochmoor Chäs is a very special specialty.
